The Magazine Industry and Shawshank Redemption

In the film Shawshank Redemption, Andy Dufresne tells his friend Red that life comes down to one basic choice:  “Get busy living, or get busy dying.”  In his article on the Picante Creative blog, Mark Swift offers this same advice to the magazine publishing industry.  He compares the glut of media options available today to the advent of cable television, when the sheer number of choices splintered the “traditional oligopoly on televised content,” and explains that magazine publishers are going to be innovative if they want to “shore up the loyalty of their reader base and keep the faithful coming back for more.”
